Where is The Oak in Chains at Alton Towers?

The Oak in Chains is inside Alton Towers theme park, in the Towers area. The resort’s 2025 Scarefest map listed the restaurant under “The Towers”; use the official visit-planning pages for up-to-date visitor information. If you remember eating at Woodcutters Bar & Grill, this is the restaurant you’re looking for under its newer name.

Use the resort’s current map to plan your route on the day. Our Dark Forest guide helps you explore that part of your park itinerary, while our 2025 Hex reopening article looks back at the attraction connected with the chained-oak legend.

This is a theme-park food stop, rather than a hotel restaurant. Keep admission and dining arrangements separate when planning your budget.

Oak in Chains menu: what can you eat?

The restaurant menu checked for this guide includes burgers, fajitas, hanging skewers, children’s meals, loaded fries, nachos, sides and sauces. That differs from the doughnut-burger and tear-and-share selection recorded when this guide was first published. Start with the resort’s restaurants and shops directory when checking your dining options.

If you’re visiting for a particular dish, check the menu before travelling and confirm it is available when you arrive. The online information is useful for narrowing down your choices; it is not a guarantee that every item will be served on every visit.

How much does it cost?

We haven’t verified a current price list, so the figures below remain labelled 2025 prices. For comparison, that original menu listed children’s meals at £8.75, doughnut burgers at £19 and several other mains between £15 and £23. Drinks and extras need to be considered separately.

For a wider comparison of places to eat, browse our Alton Towers food and drink guides before choosing your lunch stop.

Children’s meals, vegetarian choices and allergies

The live menu includes a children’s section, making it worth checking if you’re planning an Alton Towers meal as a family. The original 2025 choices included a cheeseburger, chicken tenders and fishfingers; check the live selection rather than promising a particular dish to younger visitors.

The archived menu also included dishes labelled vegetarian or vegan. For today’s options, ask the restaurant team for the latest menu and allergen information before ordering. Historical V or Ve labels are not a substitute for checking the current recipe.

The menu provider says recipes may change and shared kitchen equipment creates a cross-contamination risk. Tell staff about allergies or intolerances on every visit and ask them to confirm suitable choices.

Can you use a Merlin Annual Pass discount?

Merlin’s published benefit offers up to 20% off food and drink for valid Gold and Platinum passholders at participating locations. That does not mean every pass or purchase qualifies. Visit the official Merlin Annual Pass website to explore passes and check their benefit terms, then ask the restaurant whether your order is eligible before paying.

Our March 2025 restaurant review records a passholder discount being applied during that visit. It is historical experience, not a guarantee of today’s offer. For the differences between passes, see our Merlin Annual Pass guide.

Is The Oak in Chains worth a visit?

Our separate Oak in Chains Bar & Grill review describes a mixed March 2025 visit: the food and children’s portions were positives, while the welcome, atmosphere and drink prices drew criticism. Read the full account for what was ordered and the context behind that verdict.

For your own visit, weigh up the menu, the full meal cost and how much time you want to spend eating. A sit-down stop may suit a group wanting a break between rides; if you’re comparing options, start with the other restaurants and food stops in our dining guides.

Before you sit down

  • Check the menu displayed at the restaurant for current dishes and prices.
  • Ask about the wait and when food service finishes; don’t assume it matches park closing time.
  • Confirm dietary requirements and any passholder benefit before ordering.
  • Allow for drinks, sides and other extras when comparing the cost of your meal.
