Flambo’s Jambo at Alton Towers – A Feast or a Flop?

Flambo's Jambo restaurant at Alton Towers

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love my food. And when I’m hungry, nothing is off the table, usually. But last year, my visit to Flambo’s Jambo at Alton Towers was nothing short of a culinary disaster. Think school cafeteria food, but worse. The only redeeming factor? The desserts, which I devoured just to fill the gaping void in my stomach.

Fast forward to this year, and after watching a vlog by Anthony Blockley, I cautiously approached Flambo’s Jambo for round two. Would it be a glorious redemption or another gut-wrenching disappointment? Let’s dive in!

Pricing: What’s the Damage?

Before we get into the food, let’s talk about the cost. Flambo’s Jambo operates on a buffet system, and here’s how the pricing stacks up:

  • Adults: £29.50
  • Kids (4-11): £13.50
  • Teeny Tots (Under 4): £5.25

I believe there was a teen option, but I’ll confirm that on my next visit. Our total bill for two adults, two kids and 1 teeny tot came to £91.25, but thanks to my Merlin Annual Pass (MAP) discount of 20%, we paid just £73.00, an average of £14.60 per person, which isn’t bad considering the setting.

A major improvement from last year? Cordial drinks and water are now included in the price. This is a game-changer, as we previously had to shell out extra for soft drinks. While the bar still offers premium-priced alcohol and sodas, at least you now have a free hydration option. Perfect for the kids.

Service: A Total 180° from Last Year

I have to say, the service this time around was exceptional. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel like we were staying at the Alton Towers Resort, rather than some random off-site grill.

Tables were clean, and the staff were attentive without being intrusive, constantly clearing empty cups and plates without making us feel rushed. Compared to last year’s disaster, this was a breath of fresh air.

Food: A Buffet Worth the Price?

Now, onto the main event, the food. And this time? Flambo’s Jambo absolutely nailed it.

The Selection:

  • British Classics: A full Sunday dinner spread, complete with roast meats, Yorkshire puddings, and all the trimmings.
  • International Cuisine: Chinese, Indian, and Mexican options.
  • Soup & Salads: A fresh selection for those wanting something lighter.
  • Kids’ Section: Sausages, beans, chips, and pizza, constantly refilled so nothing ran out.
  • Desserts: A dream! Cheesecakes, mousses, and the highlight, a Mr. Whippy-style ice cream machine where you place a cone in the slot, press a button, and watch your perfect cone form in seconds. The kids loved it!

Evening Entertainment: Fun for the Family

After stuffing ourselves, we headed just upstairs to the family-friendly bar area for some live entertainment. Whether it’s a singer or another performer, it’s a great way to unwind after your meal and soak in the lively atmosphere.

Final Verdict: Flambo’s Jambo Redeemed?

I’ll admit, I went in skeptical, but Flambo’s Jambo truly exceeded expectations. From the wide food selection to the much-improved service, it felt like a proper resort dining experience. Even the chefs were chatty and looked genuinely proud when told something was fantastic.

Things to Keep in Mind:

Great views of the water park (closed in the evening, but still a nice backdrop).
Warm atmosphere due to Splash Landings’ constant heating, dress in layers!
Loud environment lots of kids running around, so if you’re after a quiet, romantic dinner, this isn’t the place for you.
Pricing without a discount can be steep, but given the location, it’s not unexpected.

For families looking for a fun, all-you-can-eat experience with plenty of variety, Flambo’s Jambo is a solid choice. Will I be back? Absolutely!
