Hex 2.0 at Alton Towers: A Magical Rebirth You Have to Experience!

Hex at Alton Towers reopens following upgrade

If you’re planning a trip to Alton Towers, Hex: The Legend of the Towers should be top of your must-ride list, especially now after its incredible upgrade!

I finally had the chance to experience Hex after its extensive refurbishment, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. While the core features that made Hex such a fan favourite remain, the stunning new lighting and subtle enhancements transform the experience into something truly magical.

A Refreshed Build-Up That Keeps the Legend Alive

The pre-show remains largely faithful to the original, preserving the deep-rooted legend that ties directly into the very heart of Alton Towers’ history. However, new lighting effects elevate the build-up significantly.

In the video room, newly installed lights flash in time with the stormy lightning scenes, creating a more immersive and dynamic experience. A warm fire-like glow now illuminates the portrait of Charles Talbot, adding a whole new layer of atmosphere and drama to the legend.

The Octagon: Where the Magic Really Begins

Moving on to the Octagon, the changes are immediately noticeable. The generator is now brilliantly lit, capturing your attention and heightening the anticipation. The witch-like figure hovering above also gets a light prompt, which, while still slightly basic, suggests that a future upgrade could make this feature even more immersive. (A new statue perhaps? We can only hope!)

Through the bookcase and into the ride, the transformation becomes even more evident.

The Ride: A Recharged Hex Experience

The lighting inside the main ride is genuinely impressive. Visual effects now bring the Earl’s mysterious experiments to life in a way that feels fresh and exciting.

One of my favorite changes? The old, tired-looking Christmas lights on the fallen branch have been replaced with multicolored LEDs that seem to pulse with the very magic of the Towers themselves.

As you near the finale, a short light show now bursts across the oak face, with shimmering magical orbs bringing a once-dull moment to vibrant life. It’s a fitting climax to the experience.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Do at Alton Towers!

I was so impressed, I rode Hex five three during my visit just to take it all in! Despite visiting on a quiet day with low crowd levels, Hex remained busy every time, a true testament to the success of the refurbishment.

Alton Towers has done an outstanding job breathing new life into this classic attraction. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the legend, Hex is an absolute must-ride on your next trip.
